Today we will compare Joint and glo™ to understand how the devices work, how they differ and what opportunities they present.
glo™ is a product of the British company British American Tobacco. Appeared on the Ukrainian market in September 2018. Joint Device is a device of the company Joint Lab LLC from the USA. Its launch took place in March 2019.
Despite the young history, both devices managed to quickly win the love of users. We also tested the systems to understand which one is better.
To begin with, it should be noted that Joint Device is a nicotine delivery system. glo™ – tobacco heating technology.
The Joint uses innovative liquids for vaping, which we will talk about a little later. In glo, we meet old familiar tobacco in KENT neostiks.
That is, glo is the same cigarette, and Joint is an alternative to them. Moreover, the developer claims that you can quit smoking with Joint, which glo cannot boast of.
Appearance and principle of operation
The appearance of glo™ is unusual. It does not resemble an MP3 player, a bottle of perfume, or a voice recorder. Quite nice, but the design is not completely clear. The device itself is quite bulky.
Joint Device has smooth lines and a stylish design that will suit people of different statuses. The device itself is very compact and light.
The joint consists of a heating device and sub-tanks with liquid. The holder and pod are connected with the help of magnets inside the heater. A charging USB cable is included.
The device has a light indicator that signals the charge level. There are no buttons. To start steaming, you just need to insert the pod and let it go. The design is much more convenient than in glo.
After all, glo consists of a heating device and joints - special cigarettes with tobacco. It is charged using the same USB cable. But to start smoking, you need to open the shutter, insert the stick, press the button until the device vibrates, wait 40 seconds for it to heat up, and only then smoke.
The inconvenience is that glo is recommended to be cleaned after every 20 smoking sessions. Such manipulations are not required with Joint. Another undoubted plus - Joint weighs only 18 grams with pods. However, the weight of glo is 101 grams without bundles of joints.
As for the joints themselves, they take up more space than the floors. And after the session, they need to be thrown away somewhere. And you can put the used pod in your pocket and not be afraid that the remaining liquid will leak. After all, the closed type system is reliably blocked.
What's better: stick or pod?
In glo, the joint is heated with selected high-quality tobacco. Thanks to smart technology, the heating temperature is 240±5°C. This is a big plus for a smoker, because in cigarettes the temperature reaches 900 degrees, and in IQOS - 350°C.
With glo, a smoker receives 90% less toxins than when consuming cigarettes. Another plus is that there is no ash and the production of combustion products is minimized. As for Joint, it is completely free of combustion products and is 97% safer than cigarettes.
Moreover, it is not the tobacco, but the liquid that is heated to a temperature of 300°C. We already wrote that the company developed an innovative composition. The liquid consists of food additives: glycerin, propylene glycol and flavoring agents.
And if glo uses ordinary nicotine, then Joint uses more purified saline, which is absorbed faster by the body. This means that the user's body is quickly saturated with the product.
Choose a joint or pod - everyone decides for themselves. But if you look at all the above characteristics, then Joint is safer glo.
Moreover, Joint smells nice and you won't feel the vapor even a meter away from the device. Glo joints have a pronounced unpleasant smell, which permeates clothes. That is, you cannot smoke in the car or in the glo cafe.
Meanwhile, Joint can be steamed wherever it is convenient. At the same time, the smell will not bother anyone and will quickly dissipate, because it is not tobacco smoke, but the vapor of food additives.
There will also be no unpleasant aftertaste in the mouth. You will feel only delicious steam. This is impossible with glo, because tobacco in joints leaves almost the same aftertaste as cigarettes.
Price
As of March 2019, the glo heating device costs 1499 hryvnias. A pack of neostiks - 43 hryvnias.
For the price of the device, you can purchase a Joint Device starter kit with four pods. The set costs 1499 hryvnias. Separately, the device costs 1 hryvnias, and under - 129 hryvnias. One pod is equal to about three packs of cigarettes. Yes, the cost of the supply and connectors separately from the device is approximately the same.
So which device is better?
Everyone has their own preferences. But according to the results of testing both systems, Joint still wins. First, it is more stylish, compact and light. Feels good in the hand.
Secondly, it does not emit an unpleasant smell due to the absence of tobacco. If a smoker wants to quit smoking, Joint will help. To do this, the developers came up with pods with different portions of nicotine, as well as without it. And if the portion is reduced, then in the end it is possible to quit smoking in principle. Not only cigarettes, but also the Joint itself.
The device is more convenient than glo. There are no buttons, no need to wait until the system heats up and you can steam. You don't have to think about where to throw the joints. No need to clean the device.
You can charge at least one socket, at least one laptop. The construction is one-piece: the liquid does not leak. The heater does not have fragile elements, which gives hope for durability.
